Biloxi: Micio Innamorato

Biloxi: Micio Innamorato

Biloxi (my name for her) the barn cat often dropped in when I come out to visit Bodhi. She wanders in from the woods & stealthily races between the legs of the horses, lawn mowers, garden implements, & stacks of square-baled hay before catapaulting herself on top of the counter in the tack room. There she sits & meow for food & loving.

Because I grew up with terrible allergy problems, I never experienced life shared with cats---& until my time with Biloxi, I could not conceive of the joy & wonder of life with them.

While visiting Rouen in spring and fall 1896, Pissarro wrote of his interest in the "motif of the iron bridge on a rainy day, with much traffic, carriages, pedestrians, workers on the quays, boats, smoke, mist in the distance, the whole scene fraught with animation and life." The present canvas is one of several views of the Boieldieu Bridge, or Grand Pont, that Pissarro painted from a room in the Hotel d'Angleterre. Its title, "Matin, Temps Gris, Rouen," is thought to be Pissarro's own. Pissarro painted many of his city views of the 1890s and early 1900s from the windows of hotel rooms; he had developed an eye ailment that gradually prevented him from working outdoors.

Bayeux (France) - Hotel d'Argouges - built 1734

From Rouen we travelled to the beautiful town of Bayeux (130 kms) - home of the famous Bayeux tapestry.

We stayed 2 nights in the Hotel d'Argouges, built in 1734 by Duc d'Argouges.

The Hotel grounds were ablaze with colourful flower gardens and hanging baskets.

The common areas in the hotel were filled with antiques. Our room, whilst large, was a little austere however it was quiet and comfortable. The hotel was within walking distance of all the major attractions of the town.
